I talk about this a lot on stories, but thought it warranted it’s own blog post. Since integrating these small changes into our home it’s made a huge difference in our lifestyle and how we live and feel.
I’m a huge believer in paying attention to how you feel. Have you ever actually stopped to think about how your space at home makes YOU feel? Do you feel; safe? comfortable? at ease and relaxed? anxious? stressed? You might not even be aware there’s a correlation but once you are, you can start implementing little things to make your space at home feel like an oasis.
DECLUTTER + ORGANIZE
Step No.1 to creating a relaxing space is to clear out the clutter and get organized. Go through EVERYTHING and sort into 3 piles: keep, donate or toss. Starting from scratch helps to determine how you feel about that item and whether it’s worthy of keeping or letting go.
If the thought of organizing your whole house makes you feel slightly ill, chunk it down into smaller tasks and start small with one area at a time and do not move onto the next area until that one has been completely handled. This helps to not get overwhelmed in the process.
Once I’ve gone through all of our closets, drawers and cupboards I like to organize like items into containers or boxes so they’re tucked away and out of sight. Once things are in place it’s easy to keep them that way, plus it’s nice to know where everything is when you do need it.
There’s something so magical about natural light filling a room. Getting enough natural light makes a huge difference to the feel of a room, not to mention can do wonders for my mood. I’m a different person when the sun is shining but I have to admit, I do love a rainy day if I don’t have to leave the house. Depending on where you live, you might not get a ton of natural light (*ahem, me) so opening up the drapes and blinds is an especially important habit to get into each morning to help me get out of sleepy-mode and into work-mode.
Hydration is key to a healthy body and complexion so to be sure that we’re always getting enough H2O, I like to store water in glass jars in the fridge so it’s always on hand and cold when we get thirsty. If you haven’t noticed, I like my drinks COLD.
I like to start each morning with 1L of ice water with lemon & 2 scoops of collagen peptides (see post here) to start my morning off on a good note. Some days are definitely more hectic than others and this has been a great way for me to make sure I’m getting my water in no matter how haywire my day gets.
DIFFUSE ESSENTIAL OILS
I love running my diffusers through our home. We have one in our living room, kitchen, office and bedroom — so basically every room! They fill the space with soothing scents that make me feel calm, relaxed and help me get to sleep. All of our diffusers are from Saje Wellness.
CANDLES + PALO SANTO
Another morning ritual I love to start the day with is to light a candle or a palo santo stick. It sets the tone of my day, feels relaxing and is a nice way to ease into my morning.
GET SOME PLANTS
Having plants at home gives it life. IMO it feels stale without them. It’s taken me so many years of agony and failed attempts at keeping everyone alive but with the help of my pal @theplantjunkie, I’ve learned how to care for them like a pro. My fiddle plant has been having so much new growth lately!! Seriously makes me so happy [and that’s the whole point].
What are some of the ways you incorporate wellness in your home? I want your tips!
