As you might know, I turned 33 this summer. I’m not one to live by the number of my age, but since I am getting older and not ready to commit to something like botox quite yet, I put a lot of energy into maintaining my health+ beauty from the inside out.
I’m very much open to trying natural supplements, dietary changes, vitamins and minerals before doing anything invasive. I’m also making sure anything I take is all-natural, non-GMO, whole-food-based, and in this case, cruelty-free to animals.
When I learned about collagen and how it can nourish your body AND that you can drink it I was instantly intrigued. One of the things I wanted to work on this year was taking more vitamins and supplements but since I’m not a big pill person, this wasn’t always the most enticing idea. So, I started incorporating a daily collagen powder to my lemon water every day until it became second nature. I’m telling you, I’m seeing some major results, so much so that I’ve slowly started incorporating other products.
I’ve never been into adding powders to my water – even ‘unflavoured’ seems flavoured to me so I started putting fresh lemon slices in with it and, problem solved. That, or sometimes I’ll throw it in with my smoothie so I can’t even tell it’s in there.

As we get older, the production of collagen in our bodies begins to slow down and as a result, skin can become fragile and less elastic. In addition, it can be common for hair to start losing its color, joints aren’t as flexible and bones may lose their density. Taking all of this into consideration, supplementing with collagen seems like the easiest way to help improve your body’s collagen levels and overall health.
In a nutshell, collagen is the vital building block for our skin, hair, nails, bones, and joints. A proper amount of collagen will keep your skin glowing and provide an overall healthier appearance. And yes, while we all love those superficial benefits, it also promotes internal health that isn’t always maintained since a lot of the foods we eat are overly-processed and stripped of nutrients.
One of the biggest differences I’ve noticed so far is to my nails. I’ve always had brittle, soft nails that would break regularly. I’ve never been able to grow them out! I’ve been taking my collagen regularly for about one month now and am finally starting to see results in my skin and hair too! Things like this take time, I never expected to see any significant results overnight but to note changes a few weeks in has been super exciting and has only made me want to continue to build on these habits moving forward.
