With everything going on in the world, there’s more talk than ever on the topic of self-care. What exactly that means, may vary from person to person. There are tons of ways to practice self care, but finding things that work for you (& serve your lifestyle) can take some time to figure out.
self-care: the practice of taking an active role in protecting one’s own well-being and happiness, in particular during times of stress.
My aim, over the last few years has been to become consistent in these habits, so that I can prepare myself for times when I’m thrown off balance. Whether that’s via business struggles, friend/family drama, or world conflict, I’m arming myself to be able to adapt to any situation — good or bad. At the end of the day, the only thing you can truly control, is yourself and your own actions. The rest will come & go, so I’ve just been over here trying to take the best possible care of myself.
When I’m taking care of myself and filling up my tank, I am a better wife, friend, daughter & business woman. Everything starts with me.

4 WAYS I PRACTICE SELF-CARE:
MOVING MY BODY [FOR MY MIND]: I’ve been open on here about how important movement is for me. When I’ve faced challenges in life or business, it’s been an outlet for me to let go of what isn’t serving me. I don’t necessarily workout for my physical appearance, but rather for my mental health.
I’ve found that it’s become a total, non-negotiable in my day-to-day life. When quarantine started, that was probably the hardest part for me, personally. I had built this routine that was really working for me, and then everything shut down and I had to figure out a new one. That sounds so pathetic, but it had taken me SO. LONG. and so much work to keep my commitments to myself and keep following through, that I was scared if I couldn’t do that anymore that I’d fall off for good.
After a few weeks of procrastination, thank god I found Melissa Wood on Instagram and signed up for her MWH program. She believes in low resistance workouts, that are both mindful but get the heart racing. It’s challenging but never daunting, if that makes sense. I also do her guided meditations in the morning, they’re short + sweet and I notice a complete shift on the days I do them.
THINGS THAT HELP ME WORKOUT
REST + RESET: I’m a night-owl by nature, so I’ve had to be conscious about setting a bedtime for myself. I aim to get around 8 hours of sleep each night; I go to bed around 11pm and I wake up at 7am. Granted, we don’t have kids, so of course it’s a bit of a luxury around here (for now).
THINGS THAT HELPS ME REST + RESET
EATING WELL: Eating/hydrating well, takes both time and energy. Something we tend to overlook bc — MEH. I know I can get very lazy when it comes to food/water bc I could honestly go without. I don’t live for my next meal, but I enjoy and appreciate good food. I’m never afraid to splurge or indulge, but I’m mindful about giving my body the fuel it needs to get me through the day. I have to make extra effort to ensure I’m hydrated and eating nutrient dense foods. I use to get so burnt out and depleted, so this was something that I just had to change, unless I didn’t want to see any changes.
In turn, it’s also improved the strength of my hair, my nails and cleared my skin. Another beauty secret everyone likes to overlook — water does WONDERS. *Tip: I try to get in as much water as possible, early on in the day. I find if I wait, I go too long without any. The more hydrated we are, the better our bodies can function, release toxins and the more plump and youthful our skin will appear!
THINGS THAT KEEP ME HEALTHY
TAKING CARE OF MY SKIN: I’ve always had a skincare routine. It’s something my Mum taught me at a very young age, and something I know I will also pass down to my own kids someday. There is NO shame in taking care of your skin and paying good money for products that work. Being proactive about prevention is the name of the game. Not that I am opposed, by any means, but I have never had anything done to my skin aside from facials & skin treatments (no botox or filler or anything). My skin has come a LONG way from how it was even a few years ago [I talk skin struggles here] but I do attribute this to taking care of my skin regularly, and keeping hydrated.
SKINCARE PRODUCTS I LIVE BY
All of these things combined and done regularly, contribute to what I would consider the ideal version of myself. I just want to feel my best, as much as possible so I’m focused and dedicated on building good habits.
They always underestimate the little stuff.
